Sharon Creech to Speak at ALAN Breakfast

June 17th, 2008 · No Comments

Newbery-winner Sharon Creech, whose works include Walk Two Moons, Bloomability, The Wanderer, Love That Dog, Ruby Holler, and others, will be speaking at the ALAN Breakfast on Saturday, November 22.

Creech’s novel Walk Two Moons received the 1995 Newbery Medal, and Ruby Holler received the 2002 Carnegie Medal, making her the first novelist to receive both prestigious awards. Says Creech of path to becoming a writer: “When I was young, I wanted to be many things when I grew up: a painter, an ice skater, a singer, a teacher, and a reporter. It soon became apparent that I had little drawing talent, very limited tolerance for falling on ice, and absolutely no ability to stay on key while singing. I also soon learned that I would make a terrible reporter because when I didn’t like the facts, I changed them.”

To purchase tickets for this event, see the convention registration form on the NCTE website.
